CityMom asked if we grew all our own pumpkins this year, and I am proud to say - yes, yes, we did! After having nary a pumpkin last year, having "too many pumpkins" this year was a lot of fun. We didn't carve all of them, though, because we wanted to leave a few for pumpkin bread experiments... and possibly a from scratch pumpkin pie. When Gareth and Katydid were younger, we baked a pumpkin pie from scratch, and I'd like to repeat the process with Farmerboy. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun... and the rewards were great!
Here is Farmerboy with his prize pumpkin... the biggest we had. (And to think it started as a humble plant on the windowsill back in April.)
Here's the whole pumpkin-carving scene. We gave two little pumpkins to Pip and Pop to scoop out. Then we cut them up to bake for mashed pumpkin, which I plan to use in pumpkin recipes. These aren't technically pie pumpkins, which are best to cook with, but we'll see how it goes.
And here are the boys scooping... This is serious business, as you can tell. (And please ignore the art cabinet in the background. I'm working on it.)

And that big pumpkin was pretty tough!
But he got it in the end!
