Three Plus Two

More Technology Woes

1. Got the computer back yesterday, supposedly fixed.  Computer wouldn't boot up.
2. Took computer back to friend who'd been helping us.  She completely removed our old hard drive, confirming the worst: we lost everything on the old hard drive.  That means we lost most of the pictures of the babies.  Most of my writing was backed up, but I could always write it again if I lost it.  I can't retake pictures of the babies when they were 6 weeks old.  Lessons learned the hard way.
3. Got computer back today and attempted to hook up cable modem and log onto the Internet.  No dice.
4. Spent an hour on the phone with technical support.  They couldn't figure it out either.  They're sending someone out on Saturday.

So I'm back to using my husband's laptop at night when he's able to bring it home.  We have replaced the broken camera with a new camera, which is about a thousand times better than the old camera and has now become my favorite toy.  I've taken lots of pictures in the past week -- of our first day of school, of our collage box and the kids doing art in the morning while I read, of a really, really large black and yellow argiope spider in our flower bed and a milkweed tussock moth caterpillar that looks like a piece of carpet fuzz -- but I won't be able to upload them until my desktop is fixed. 

And here I thought technology was supposed to make my life simpler. 

Technology Hates Me

The heat wave last week fried the hard drive on our desktop.  My laptop is antiquated, and I did not even bother to have my roadrunner software loaded onto it.  Which turned out to be a mistake.  Because now I have no Internet access except when my husband can spare his laptop.  Which is only in the evenings, sometimes.

The day before the hard drive gave up the ghost, the digital camera stopped working.  Probably because the three year old dropped it one too many times.

But!  I have now washed (and dried) my husband's cell phone not once, but twice, and it has come through perfectly fine... except for the garbled ring tones... and smelling of lavender fabric softener as a bonus.

Why can't they make computers like that?

In any case, blogging will be a little light until we get the technology crisis sorted out.
